This is for the HP 600 series printers.

STARTING THE DIAGNOSTIC SELF-TEST

With the printer on and the power light lit, press and hold down the Power button. Then press the Resume button five (5) times. Release the Power button. The printer will print one copy of the diagnostic self-test.

INTERPRETING THE TEST

Nozzle Patterns
The black and color diagonal test patterns verify that all dots on each cartridge are firing correctly. Missing nozzles can be caused by bad print cartridges, incorrectly installed print cartridges, mis-installed service stations, a bad Carriage PCA, and/or a bad interconnect.

ID:
Print cartridge identification, K= C, C= R. The first letter indentifes pen type (K=Black, C=color). The second letter indentifies the pen's specific model.

Model Name:
Identifies printer model name.

Model Number:
Identifies printer model number.

Revision:
Revision number of firmware installed.

Date:
Date and time the firmware was flashed.

Status:
Indicates printer status as well as failures that require user intervention.

I/O:
Identifies I/O serial port as standard RS-422-A type for MacIntosh or IEEE 1284 for DOS-based printers.

Print Skew Test:
Measures the print margins to ensure paper moves through the printer properly and printing does not appear tilted on the page. To test for print skew, fold the top edge of the page down toward the bottom, aligning the left edge of the paper without creasing the paper. If the vertical line left of the A falls between the two vertical lines to the left of the C, the print skew is within product specification.
